World Password Day: Level Up Your Passwords - Thursday, May 7, 2026
World Password Day is a timely reminder of the important role strong passwords play in keeping our digital lives secure. Observed annually on the first Thursday in May, this day encourages individuals and organizations to take a moment to review their password habits and strengthen their defenses against cyber threats. With so much of our personal and professional information stored online, a weak or reused password can put sensitive personal and student data at risk!
Creating strong passwords doesn’t have to be complicated. Aim for passwords that are at least 12 characters long and include a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Consider using a memorable passphrase instead of a single word, and avoid using easily guessed information like names or birthdays. It’s also important to use unique passwords for different accounts and to enable multi-factor authentication whenever possible.
Taking a few simple steps today can make a big difference in protecting your information year-round!

Using the California K-2 Literacy Screeners to Inform Instruction
The California K–2 Reading Difficulties Risk Screeners (Education Code Section 53008) provide educators with a structured way to identify and support the foundational skills essential for early reading success. Administered one or more times throughout the year, these screeners help highlight student strengths, identify areas of need, and guide timely, targeted instruction aligned with the California ELA/ELD Framework and evidence-based practices. The screeners focus on key components of early literacy, including phonological and phonemic awareness, letter knowledge, rapid automatic naming, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and oral language comprehension. This companion resource supports educators in moving from data to action by offering clear skill definitions, connections to grade-level standards, guiding reflection questions, evidence-based instructional strategies from the California Department of Education’s Content Blocks, and additional resources to strengthen both Tier 1 instruction and small-group interventions.
