closing out the 2024/25 school year

closing out the 2024/25 school year

As we close out another incredible school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the many accomplishments and experiences that made 2024–2025 such a success for our students, educators, and the entire Lassen County educational community.

This year, we invested in professional growth for all staff through robust professional development opportunities designed to elevate instructional practice, foster collaboration, and support the well-being of our educators. Whether through in-person workshops, virtual trainings, or countywide collaboration days, our educators leaned in, learned, and led with heart and dedication.

We also took every opportunity to celebrate our outstanding educators. One of the highlights of the year was our Educator Gala, where we came together to honor the dedication, innovation, and hard work of those who make a difference in the lives of our students every day. It was a meaningful night of recognition, appreciation, and celebration of the exceptional work happening across our county.

For our students, this year was filled with rich, hands-on learning and memorable experiences. Highlights include:

·         Third Grade History Day, where students brought the past to life with curiosity and creativity
·         Fourth Grade Day, full of exploration and engagement in California history
·         Fifth Grade Day in the Forest, encouraging environmental awareness and outdoor learning
·         Sixth Grade Day on the Biz, where students explored local business and entrepreneurship opportunities
·         Our Third Annual Career Day, inspiring students to think boldly about their futures
·         The always-popular Literacy Festival, celebrating the joy and power of reading
·         A continued focus on student wellness with Depressional Awareness events and outreach
·         The annual You Matter Conference, which was proudly expanded this year, reaching youth with a message of hope, empowerment, and connection

These events reflect our deep commitment to educating the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally.

As we head into summer, I hope each of you takes time to rest, recharge, and reflect. We are already hard at work planning for the 2025–2026 school year and look forward to building on this year's successes with even more enriching experiences for our students and staff.

Thank you all for a fantastic year. Have a safe and rejuvenating summer!

With gratitude,

Patty Gunderson

Portrait of the superintendent, Patricia GundersonLassen County includes more than 4,500 square miles. We serve approximately 4,500 students in our educational community grades Transitional kindergarten through 12th. Ten individual school districts, three independent charter schools, Lassen Community College and the Lassen County Office of Education work collaboratively to ensure a quality education for each of our students. Working together, all of the Lassen County schools have reached agreement concerning common curriculum and assessments, as well as the use of common instructional practices.

Our schools share many opportunities for professional development, community and career awareness and countywide events for all students. Countywide events include Children’s Fair, Sober Graduation, Lit Jam, STEM Fair, Eighth Grade College Day, Seventh Grade Career Fair, Fifth Grade Day in the Desert, Fourth Grade California History Day and Third Grade Lassen County History Day. These activities are possible, in part, because we have awesome community partners and individual community members. The generous people donate time and financial support in order to ensure our students participate in hands-on learning. The magic of education happens everywhere, in the classroom and in the community, and Lassen County teachers provide high quality, engaging and fun learning experiences for our students.

We are always working on ways to improve our programs and the communication to our parents and community. New ideas? Questions? Or, just a conversation about educational issues? Please feel free to call me at (530) 257-2197.

Thank you,

Patricia Gunderson
