2025 Fourth grade day wrap up

The Lassen County Office of Education (LCOE) is excited to once again welcome 4th grade students from across the region to the annual California History Day on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Lassen County Fairgrounds. This hands-on event invites students to explore California’s rich and diverse past through engaging activities, interactive exhibits, and immersive learning experiences.

“We are thrilled to continue providing students with hands-on opportunities to connect with California’s past,” said James Hall, Director of Student, Family and Community Engagement at LCOE. “Events like History Day make learning meaningful, relevant, and fun.”

Throughout the day, students will rotate through themed workshops and stations that bring California history to life. Example of activities include:
  • Discovery Lab – Learn to identify minerals with microscopes and tools just like 49ers of the past.
  • California Scavenger Hunt – Follow clues to discover important places in the Golden State, from the State Capitol to coastal landmarks.
  • Ranch Days – Get roping lessons, create cattle brands, and learn about ranching traditions with the Lassen County Cattlemen and Cattlewomen.
  • Railroads & Dance – Discover the role of railroads in shaping California’s growth—then hit the dance floor for a historical line dance.
  • A Taste of California – Sample fresh produce and learn about California agriculture.
  • Hispanic Heritage: Hojalata Art – Create colorful tin art while learning about California’s Hispanic cultural roots.
  • Women in California History – Hear stories of trailblazing women.
  • Paiute Folklore & Fire Management – Listen to Native legends and learn how traditional and modern fire practices shape land stewardship.
