Day on the Bizz

The Lassen County Office of Education proudly wrapped up 6th Grade Day on the Bizz, where learning stepped out of the classroom and into nature! The program was funded through a grant awarded to LCOE from the Kids to Parks Day School Grants Program. Local students participated in a day full of hands-on educational experiences along the Bizz Johnson Trail, highlighting the importance of environmental awareness, wellness, and outdoor recreation.

Throughout the day, students rotated through four interactive stations designed to engage minds and inspire stewardship. From learning about invasive plants in “Green Invaders: Plant Patrol” to building shelters and testing survival skills including bow and arrow shooting at targets in “Camp Challenge: Hobo Games Edition,” students embraced the spirit of adventure. “Trail Tales and Tree Whispers” encouraged mindfulness and connection with nature, while “Critters of the Canyon” brought students face-to-face with a California Fish and Game Warden, who taught them about local wildlife and conservation.

One student summed it up best: “I felt like a real explorer today—learning about nature and helping take care of it was so cool!” The event not only supported science and wellness learning but also empowered students to become active stewards of their environment.

We are grateful to our educators, volunteers, and community partners who made the day a success. Thank you for helping us plant the seeds of lifelong learning—right in our own backyard!
