A promotional flyer from the Lassen County Office of Education titled “Educator Summit,” with mountain graphics and green tones. Event details list Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM at Diamond View School. A large red banner across the center reads “CANCELLED.” The flyer includes references to learning lab sessions, special guest speakers, a registration QR code, and the LCOE Professional Development logo.
While the Educator Summit will not take place as planned, LCOE is actively exploring opportunities to reschedule the planned learning sessions at a later date, likely in after-school formats, to ensure the content and professional learning can still be shared with Lassen County educators. Additional information will be communicated as plans are finalized.
Promotional flyer titled “Your New AI Sidekicks: Gemini and Notebook LM” featuring photos of two educators working on laptops. The flyer describes a virtual professional development session on February 24, 2026, from 3:45–5:00 PM, introducing Google’s Gemini and NotebookLM tools for educators. It includes a registration link (bit.ly/edtech-pd) and notes the event is free for Butte County educators, with a $15 fee for others. The EdTech Butte COE logo appears on the design.
We are excited to share a special professional learning opportunity, Your New AI Sidekicks: Gemini & NotebookLM, hosted by the Butte COE EdTech Department. If this session sounds familiar, it’s because it is the same session originally planned for the 2026 Lassen County Educator Summit with Jacob Carr.

This engaging virtual workshop will introduce two powerful tools built into Google for Education that are designed to save you time and enhance student learning. Participants will explore Gemini, Google’s AI model that can help draft emails, generate creative lesson plans, and brainstorm ideas directly within Google Workspace, as well as NotebookLM, a personal research assistant that uses your own documents to create summaries, flashcards, smart Q&A sessions, and even custom podcasts.

The session will be held virtually on February 24, 2026, from 3:45–5:00 PM. While there is typically a $15 fee for educators outside of Butte County, Lassen COE will cover the cost for Lassen County educators. To ensure your registration is covered, please enter “Lassen Co. Educator” in the PO section of the registration form. You can register at bit.ly/edtech-pd.

Using the California K-2 Literacy Screeners to Inform Instruction
The California K–2 Reading Difficulties Risk Screeners (Education Code Section 53008) provide educators with a structured way to identify and support the foundational skills essential for early reading success. Administered one or more times throughout the year, these screeners help highlight student strengths, identify areas of need, and guide timely, targeted instruction aligned with the California ELA/ELD Framework and evidence-based practices. The screeners focus on key components of early literacy, including phonological and phonemic awareness, letter knowledge, rapid automatic naming, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and oral language comprehension. This companion resource supports educators in moving from data to action by offering clear skill definitions, connections to grade-level standards, guiding reflection questions, evidence-based instructional strategies from the California Department of Education’s Content Blocks, and additional resources to strengthen both Tier 1 instruction and small-group interventions.
